Silicates

13.11.2007

Piaskowiec był używany jako budulec już w czasach starożytnych, o czym świadczą budowle w różnych stronach świata. Obecnie ma on swój odpowiednik w równie wytrzymałych wyrobach wapienno piaskowych.

Calcium silicates

anti-fungal impact resistant versatile
anti-mould mothproof stable
durable moisture proof fireproof
green lightweight
non toxic incombustible

1. ………………..green, stable
Silicates are environmentally friendly building materials
made from lime, sand and water – natural inorganic
substances – in a relatively simple and cost-effective
production process. Silicate bricks and boards are also
permanent materials with constant physical and chemical
properties, so they don’t deform in extreme temperature
or moist air and give walls a high degree of stability.
2. ………………..lightweight, durable, impact
Although slender in construction and susceptible to
damage, the considerable mechanical strength of calcium
silicates makes them capable of bearing heavy loads. A t
the same time, the light structure contributes to creating
more space for living, storage and working than other
similar materials. The bulk density of silicates also results
in an excellent soundproofing effect, which is increased
with the thickness of bricks and boards, although it is
remarkable even in thin walls.
3. ………………..fireproof, incombustible
Silicates are one of the most successful fire-resistant A –
grade materials, able to withstand several hours of intense
fire. A s such, they also have excellent high-temperature
insulating properties.
4. ………………..anti-fungal, antimould, non toxic,
………………..mothproof, moisture proof
It is widely believed that walls of calcium silicate bricks
ensure a favourable microclimate in which to live. Silicates
can absorb excess moisture in the rooms and release
it when the rooms get dry, thus maintaining a proper humidity balance. In addition, silicates prevent mildew
and the development of harmful substances and pests.
5. ………………..versatile
Calcium silicate blocks, boards and bricks are
manufactured in various dimensions, and are used for
internal and external walls as well as in chimney stacks
and funnels in residential, public and industrial buildings.
Due to their inherent strength and superior insulating
properties ensuring thermo-mechanical stability, silicates
are also widely used in the machine and metal industries.

Study tip!

Wbrew pozorom, język polski i angielski mają wiele
podobnych wyrazów, co może zarówno ułatwić jak i utrudnić
naukę. Z jednej strony występują takie słowa jak organisation,
concentrate, universal, itp., które są znaczeniowo wiernym
odbiciem ich polskich odpowiedników. Z drugiej jednak
strony jest grupa tzw. „false friends”, gdzie niemal identycznie
brzmiące słowa mają zupełnie odmienne znaczenia. Oto
kilka przykładów:
Client – słowo to oznacza „klient”, lecz tylko w przypadku
osoby korzystającej z usług specjalisty, firmy lub organizacji;
osoba robiąca zakupy w sklepie to po angielsku customer
Extra – słowo to nie oznacza polskiego „świetnie”, lecz
„dodatkowo”
Hazard – słowo to tłumaczymy jako „niebezpieczeństwo”,
„ryzyko”, „zagrożenie”, podczas gdy „gambling” to po polsku
hazard, uprawiania hazardu.
Warto zatem od czasu do czasu zweryfikować używane
słownictwo, a ucząc się nowego – na wszelki wypadek
zawsze skonsultować się ze słownikiem.
